Directions Things to do in the area
The site: Mendocino Woodlands State Park
Mendocino Woodlands is a National Historic site in a state park. Surrounded by redwoods, the camp is about 30 minutes from Mendocino, CA and some of the most gorgeous natural beachfront around. Meals will be prepared in the camp’s full scale kitchen, and enjoyed outside or in the dining hall. There are multiple outdoor firepits and serious fireplaces, so bring your marshmallows and sausages.
For our friends visiting from outside California, this is coastal Northern California, so think majestic cliffs, windswept promotories and icy water, not palm trees and banana hammocks frolicking across golden sands.
Cabins
The camp itself contains plenty of small cabins that can be viewed as luxurious camping or rustic hotel, depending on your perspective. Each cabin contains 4 cots. Some nights you may have to share a cabin with others, but there will be plenty of space for everyone.
Each cabin features a large picture window, a rustic stone fireplace, and no electricity, so be sure to bring a flashlight, headlamp, or lantern. Check out more photos below.
Restroom facilities and running, potable water are a short walk from any of the cabins, so you may want some slip-on shoes for nighttime elimination.
Cots & Bedding
Bedding is NOT provided, so bringing sleeping bags or sheets & blankets is absolutely necessary. The cots are basically a thin mattress on top of a board on a metal frame, so if you like a bit more cushioning you may want to bring a thermarest or an air mattress.
See more about what to bring.
